Parvovirus Canino

El parvovirus es una enfermedad contagiosa que se trasmite por vía oral mediante la exposición directa de heces contaminadas o de forma indirecta, ya que el parvovirus puede sobrevivir por más de 6 meses en el medio ambiente.

Síntomas
Pérdida del apetito, depresión fiebre, vómito, diarrea líquida que va de un color amarillo grisáceo hasta ser hemorrágica y deshidratación.
La muerte puede ocurrir en casos graves, en particular en cachorros y en las razas altamente susceptibles, entre las cuales se encuentran, rottwailer, labrador, pastor alemán, american pit bull terrier, doberman pinscher, golden retriever, springer spaniel, y yorkshire terrier.

Diagnóstico
Se requiere un análisis de sangre para la demostración activa del virus o antígeno viral en heces.

Tratamiento
• Hidratación
• Antibióticos para el control de las infecciones bacterianas.
• Medicamentos para controlar el vómito y antidiarreicos.
Es muy importante no administrar nada por vía oral hasta que el vómito haya cesado por 24 hrs y la diarrea haya disminuido y no contenga rastros de sangre.
Esto puede requerir de 3 a 5 días en casos graves.

Alimentación
Se deben de administrar dietas blandas hasta que la función gastrointestinal se haya recuperado, el retorno a la comida regular debe de ser gradual.

Prevención
Es importante realizar la desinfección de los lugares y objetos contaminados por parvovirus para evitar futuros contagios, para esto podemos utilizar cloro.
